What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Good Morning everyone, thank you for your kind welcome into the super duper ever growing family that is Whats On Your WorkDesk Wednesday, Mrs Dunnit is a very charming host, and I kindly except her invite to return, but boy, I did not realise how long it would take me to get round everyone’s desks and actually leave comments, I didn’t manage all of them but it was well over 150 so I was quite pleased. (I couldn’t leave comments on some due to blogger. Honest it was he’s fault!) and I need to work out a proper system this week, I couldn't remember where I had visited and where I hadn’t!

I was wondering do you leave comments at every single desk, or do you visit the same ones every week, so only comment on those ones?

So onto my desk this week,

You will see nothing very much of interest I took this Tuesday evening before I tidying away the bits and bobs I used for making the Pink Gem Card (although it was posted after, I actually made the Magnolia card at the weekend so the pink gem one, is the last one I did, does that make sense?) the pile of stamped images, does anyone else do this??, I usually stamp and then emboss the image with clear embossing powder so I have a stamping session and stamp a load of the same images for colouring at a later date, I have a box of images, stamped and embossed all ready to colour, and when I am poorly and can’t manage to sit up at the desk, my kitchen trug’ type thing filled with markers and my box of stamped images come to the bedroom and I can colour when I am well enough, so I end up with lots of coloured images waiting to go onto cards, Usually none in the colours that i want !!!

I couldn't’ decide what image to use on the pink and green card so coloured a couple.

So while I was taking my pictures I thought I would show you my little colouring book that I have been keeping since I started using markers (copics & pro-markers)

I have CFS and my memory is very severally affected and one day I can colour an image which I like and then the next I can’t remember what colours I used, so I colour a couple of images and then record all the details in my book, I also write down other peoples tips and what colour combos they recommend, for example I think a good pro-marker combo for the forever friend bears is Vanilla, Ivory and Saffron, I have listed hair colour combo’s and skin tone combo’s, all sorts of tips and helpful hints I have found since using markers, basically it just saves me wasting card and ink and time and effort, This works well for me and is so helpful, it has all sorts written in it and stuck in it but it works and I would recommend anyone just starting out using markers to do something like this.

This is what happens when i leave my photographic lighting box (thingy) set up, so i don't use it very often which is why most of my photos are dark and dismal

Thanks for visiting and if you read the waffling and didn't just look at the piccys well done you hehehe Hope you all have a great week.

Lou x

Oh I forgot to say if there is anyone who does not know why i am showing you this and waffling on and if you have no idea what WOYWW means - Where have you been???- head on over to The Stamping Ground where lots and lots of people allow you into thier homes to snoop round their crafting area, its great!

  2. Great idea to have that book as a memory jogger, very helpful. I try to get round as many desks as I can, if I'm going to be really busy then there are names I particularly look for in the list, I also try to make sure that I've commented on anyone who left me a comment too.

  3. Well! Some fab ideas here Lou. Sorry I didn't get round to you last week - I was having Blogger issues too! I love your marker storage - where did you get it?

My turn to return a tip - I have a grid, a very simple excel spreadsheet with the numbers 1-180 (last week we very nearly had that many!) and as I visit the bblogs, I tick off the number on Mr Linky. It helps me keep track of where I've been, especially as we have more than one of some names! Hope that helps...

  7. Such a great idea to keep a book of your colouring details. You are obviously expert at it now and it sounds like it's good therapy for you.
Have a great WOYWW and thanks for visiting!

  12. Fab idea using that book as a memory prompter for colouring. From what I've seen, there are so many colours on those pens, that it would be impossible to remember what you used on what. It's the simplest ideas that are so often the best!

  13. I start with visiting the blogs of people who have commented on mine, then I go to ones starting from 1 then go back and start from the latest entries, some weeks I get through all and some weeks I dont. I want your notebook lol, I wish I could colour as good as you, any tips? May I have your book tee hee

  15. What a nice helpful photographer's assistant you have there! I love you idea of a reference book for your coloring, including tips, techniques, and color combos along with actual samples. It must invaluable tool when coloring!

As far as visiting all the desks, I did them all the first few times and it took several days. I've had less time lately so I give myself different rules. Last week I started at 1 and did every 3rd blog and filled in a few others here and there. This week I started at 40 and am doing every other blog. I do try to look and see who commented on my WOYWW post and make sure to visit them. After posting today I decided I should try to keep my WOYWW posts shorter to help out those coming to visit.

  16. I do the same with stamped images and I have a promarker book that a friend made me - its so useful. Great minds think alike. CFS is such a pain isn't it? I visit everyone's desk who visits me and then visit as many of the others as I can. I find it difficult to get round too many though as the computer makes me very tired. Have a good week. xxx I hope this comments works - fingers crossed!!!

  18. What a great desk Lou, love your colouring I have to admit the colouring part isn't my favourite past time, I never write tips down so mostly forget them, maybe that's why it takes me so long to colour anything and I'm never happy with the result. I don't visit all the blogs it would take too long, I visit a row and give up when I run out of time. Have a lovely Wednesday, Laura

  19. Such a good idea to have a reference book! Wish I had thought of that years ago! Love your little helper

  20. Hi Lou. Welcome back to another round of WOYWW!
Love the idea of your book - may I borrow that idea? Please? I also like the box with your pens in!
As for your question about who to visit, I always try to go to the people I follow by using the dashboard list on Blogger, and I also visit people who have visited me, and then I look at the list and try a few names that appeal to me. Wednesday is a bit of a hit and miss with me as I work full time, and Wednesday evening I go Dancing and after about 10pm the internet gets flaky! Hence it takes me more than an evening!
There are no rules so do what YOU want to do!

  23. Love your images and what a great idea about the markers book, I have scraps of paper with colour combo on from blogs etc will have to transfer them to a book - thanks for sharing. I used to visit everyone but it took all my time and I found I had stopped crafting so now I visit anyone who visits me and try to visit a few either side of where I appear in the list - but lots of fews its all about having fun and sharing :)

  25. Hi Lou!! Love your coloured images and your little book is very clever - but far too sensible and organised for a scatterbrain like me!! I like your light 'thingy' (the puss ain't bad either). I wonder, did you make it yourself or buy it? My photos are always so awful I need to do something, and I'm often doing it at night. Anyhoo, thanks for popping by to see me - oh and I only ever get around about a quarter these days, much as I enjoy being nosy I couldn't possibly get round them all, especially as I can't usually start unti the evening. I try to visit everyone who visits me and select others randomly from Julia's list until I fall over asleep (which will be soon!!) Cindy #51

  26. Oh wow, what a great book! I have a friend who would love that! Love the picture of your cat :)

  27. love your coloured images, I sometimes do that but like you then can't match them to anything! I sometimes take some favourite papers so I colour them to match then keep the coloured image with the papers until I want to use them (then I forget which papers they were).
Great idea to have your notebook, I should try that!
I don't ever get around everyone in WOYWW, would love to but time doesn't allow it. I always try to visit the people who visit me and also go to my regulars first but after that I pick out the odd one when time allows.
    Happy WOYWW! Deb #106

  28. First of all, love your cat. Reminds me of my last one - Fudge who was a stray - we only managed to keep him 18 months - broke my heart when he passed on.
Thanks for sharing your colouring book - what a fabulous source you are making there. Thanks also for showing us all those images you have coloured in so beautifully.
At the moment I am in USA on vacation so only managing to reply to those who have left me a comment. Nobody bothers if you don't comment so there is no need to wreck yourself trying to get to everyone. You did so well last week!
Thanks though for commenting on my blog - sorry I am so late but lots of friends keep coming to see me and then tonight I did an English Dinner. Hugs, Neet #6

  29. Great fun..love all the images you have colored. I've no patience for that. In case you can't find the Youtube on the crochet hearts, let me know..they were fun to make.
I try to vary my visits, I just don't seem to make them all. I like to get back to all who visit me, but..sometimes that doesn't work either.
I worked at organizing ribbon, sorting by color, was gone for a few minutes and my 2 cats had their little paws in everything. They don't miss a thing. I gave them some odds and ends to bat about so I could continue. So I totally understand about your lightbox.!!! Enjoy the week.

  31. Lovely images on your desk, I tend to use alot of digi stamps and do have quite a few printed off, I sometimes colour a few at a time if I'm in a colouring mood, but as you say I then tend to find the colours don't go with the cards I want to create! I never get around everyone, I just don't have enough time, so I pick a few randomly from the list and also the ones who often comment on my desk and then if anyone visits me I always visit back. Love the idea with your colouring book, I often forget what colours I have used!

  36. Your crafty space looks lovely and this is such a cuuuuuute collection of images. And what a fantastic idea with the book recording the colours and including the image coloured with them. Must give it a try myself!

  37. Aww Lou, I see you have a puddy cat who like to get in on the action too. My little fellow BoJangles usually wants to sit on my desk right were I’m trying to work, Lol!

What a great idea your book is. I’m quite new to ProMarkers and never know what colour combos go together. I normal end up going on line to see what others use and then by the time I’ve found what I’m looking for I don’t feel like coloring anymore, so that would be something that would definitely help me I think.

    Happy Crafting!

  39. That book is such a good idea for all of us. Mind you, I rarely repeat cards, so it is not too much of a problem. As far as visiting is concerned, there is no way I can get round everyone each week, no matter how much I try. My system falls apart most weeks, but I do get back to everyone who visits me, and as many of the others as possible. Have a good week. xx Maggie #90

  40. I have a book that's similar - acrylic paints that I like to use together. Yep, great minds think alike!! hee hee Your little girls are way cute!

As far as visiting others - I do try my best to visit everyone. It's difficult though, and usually takes me through the weekend to do it. I definitely visit those that visit me (thank you for your comment!). That's a good starting point.

Have a great rest of the week!

  43. What a lovely post, Lou. It seems to be cat week around WOYWW, what do these fur balls think they are doing muscling in on our workdesks, they'll want their own blogs next!!
You are one serious colourer. I need lessons from you, I struggle, especially with hair. I don't colour these cute characters very often so need more practice.
BTW I only printed my digi images on a cheap printer and had no problem with the lines bleeding, although I did print them several days before I coloured them. Hope this helps.

  44. Hi Lou!
Your colour record book as fantastic! I imagine it is a really good help. I imagine there was also a lot of work went into it. Your colouring is fab so I suppose that proves it's worth it!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I don't always comment on everyones as it just takes so long and I don't have time (cos I work full and just have the evening to craft and I don't really want to be stuck at the computer instead of crafting! I'm also on a challenge blog design team and do a lot of commenting through that.) but I always at least comment on those who have commented on mine, iykwim!

  48. Hello there - thankyou for visiting my blog this week. I had trouble leaving comments last week. I tried to visit all blogs after christmas - though had problems with some. I don't think I will have time to do that again it takes ages. I try and visit a few different ones each time, some every time and anyone who visits me. Love the idea of your book. I have promarkers and love them but am not as profficient as you at colouring. Anne x

  52. Aww Lou - that's what's known as Photobombing by your kitty! They do love to help, don't they.

I think you are extremely organised, considering you've got M.E. I know the problems with the brain fog, and I try to keep a record of what I do, too - mostly using my blog, but with Sheba, my new Black Cat Cougar cutter, I am collecting the test sheets I am cutting, writing on each one what settings I've used, and filing them away for future reference. I love your notebook with all your colours listed.

Sorry to hear you've had M.E. for 13 years - I've just hit my 5th anniversary. I'm in an alternate days phase at the moment - bad and not quite so bad, so hopefully coming out of this bad patch soon! I do try to pace but when I get the bit between my teeth in my ARTHaven it's hard to stop sometimes!!! I'm currently working on a Celtic knot drawing in Inkscape that I want to emboss in metal on Sheba. Nothing like leaping in with both feet when you're a beginner, is there!

  62. Wow what a fantastic idea having a colouring journal, I use promarkers, flexmarkers and trio markers, and I have scraps of card everywhere with colouring ideas I see online and the ones I do, then when I'm colouring I end up rummaging to find what piece of card I put the recipe on lol. I never get around everyone commenting, my problem is when I start reading a blog, I can't stop, I have to read their posts for the last week or so!!! I try and visit as many as I can while on my mobile tablet thing while I'm in pain, I can't always comment on it, but I do get to see lots of blogs. Love your idea of colouring, I have sofa craft beading, sorting, cutting etc but never thought of preparing lots of stamped images to colour while on sofa, mind you I would never know what colours to take with me lol I would want them all downstairs which is over 170. Love all your coloured images, they have inspired me to keep on practising colouring. Kezzy xx
